An industrial waste water treatment plant is a treatment system used to process wastewater generated from manufacturing, processing, cleaning, cooling, washing or production activities. Unlike ordinary domestic sewage, industrial wastewater can contain oil, grease, suspended solids, high COD, color, chemicals, acids, alkalis, heavy metals, detergents or toxic substances. Therefore, industrial wastewater treatment must be designed based on actual water quality instead of using one standard package.

The first step is usually pretreatment. Screens remove large particles and floating materials. Equalization tanks balance flow and pollutant concentration, which is important because factory discharge may change by production shift, cleaning cycle or batch operation. If wastewater contains oil or grease, an oil-water separator or DAF dissolved air flotation unit may be required. DAF is widely used to remove fine suspended solids, emulsified oil and floating sludge with chemical dosing.
Chemical treatment is often needed in industrial applications. Coagulants, flocculants, pH adjustment chemicals or specialized reagents may be used to remove suspended solids, phosphorus, color, colloids or certain metals. A dosing system should be selected according to water quality, chemical type, reaction time and sludge production.
If wastewater is biodegradable, biological treatment can reduce COD, BOD and ammonia nitrogen. MBR systems are suitable for compact layouts and higher effluent quality. MBBR systems use biofilm carriers and can handle load fluctuation more effectively. SBR systems are practical for variable-flow or batch wastewater projects. However, biological processes are sensitive to toxicity, high salinity, extreme pH and poorly biodegradable compounds, so pretreatment or testing may be necessary.
After primary and biological treatment, lamella clarifiers, filters, activated carbon units or disinfection systems can be added for final polishing. Sludge generated from DAF, chemical precipitation and biological treatment must be collected and dewatered. Sludge dewatering machines help reduce sludge volume and disposal cost.
For proper selection, buyers should provide wastewater source, daily flow, peak flow, COD, BOD, TSS, oil content, pH, color, salinity, temperature, heavy metals, discharge standard, operating hours, site layout, available space, power supply, automation level and project location.
